Justice Impacted Collective
Why Our Work Matters
- Reduces Barriers: We help individuals overcome systemic challenges with direct, person-centered support.
- Strengthens Families: Stability creates opportunities for reconnection and healing.
- Improves Communities: When people have the tools to succeed, neighborhoods are safer and stronger.
- Breaks Cycles of Injustice: We address the root causes of incarceration and promote equitable opportunities for success.
"Two Roads. One Future. Empowered by Support."
Who We Are
The Justice Impact Collective (JIC) is a community-driven initiative within the Family Support Center of Maryland, created by and for justice-impacted individuals. We believe that healing and transformation are possible when people are supported with compassion, dignity, and opportunity.
Our Team
JIC is made up of experienced mentors, advocates, and professionals – many of whom have personally navigated the barriers of being formerly incarcerated or justice-impacted. We bring both lived expertise and professional knowledge to help clients build confidence, develop skills, and reclaim their place in the community.
At The Core
We are a collective of justice-impacted people that are committed to:
- EMPOWERMENT: Helping individuals recognize their strengths and achieve their goals.
- BELONGING: Fostering a supportive environment where every voice is heard and valued.
- CHANGE: Breaking cycles of incarceration by addressing systemic barriers, trauma, and stigma.
Through the JIC, we create spaces where justice impacted individuals not only receive support but also lead, inspire, and build meaningful futures.
What We Offer:
Support at Every Stage
Individual Planning and Case Management
Each individual receives a personalized success plan that reflects their goals, strengths, and needs. We assist with:
- Navigating Housing and Community Resources.
- Benefits enrollment (SNAP, MEDICAID, SSI/SSDI).
- Obtaining identification and essential documents.
- Transportation access and crisis support.
Trauma-Informed Support
Clients are connected with mental health and wellness resources, substance-use treatment, and peer-based recovery supports. Our approach is grounded in trauma awareness and focuses on healing systemic harm.
Skill Building and Life Preparation
Through interactive group sessions and workshops, clients build practical life skills:
- Communication and conflict resolution.
- Job readiness and budgeting.
- Technology navigation and digital literacy.
- Financial empowerment and independent living strategies.
Mentorship and Peer Support
Our mentors – each with lived experience in the justice system – offer guidance, encouragement, and authentic connection. These relationships build trust and help individuals navigate life after incarceration.
Community Belonging and Impact
We engage local partners, community members, and justice-impacted leaders to create a network of support. Together, we foster a sense of belonging, stability, and mutual accountability.
